Merry-go-round
Panning is a photographic technique that combines a slow shutter speed with camera motion to create a sense of momentum around a moving object. It is a way to keep your subject in focus while blurring your background. Panning is typically done on a subject moving horizontally, such as a moving car or a running dog.
I played a little with this technique on Wednesday when we went to Dumbo to celebrate Nico's eighth birthday. The kids loved Jane's Carrousel, and I took advantage of the moment to practice a little.
Janes' Carrousel has been around for 150 years—such a lovely Brooklyn thing to do.
